Greetings, Sweet Sugarcanes.

This week in our yoga class we will do what is called Sugarcane Pose or Ardha Chandra Chapasana. 

As Julia Lee explained so well in an article from DoYouYoga, “True to its name, Sugarcane Pose is a variation of Half Moon Pose that is really sweet and bendy. There is a sense of spaciousness and expansiveness that comes from opening up through the chest and shoulder, a lovely strength and groundedness through the balance of the standing leg, and a boost of radiance and energy that comes from the asymmetrical backbend.”

The shape of the pose resembles the sugarcane plant:   


One of the qualities they both share is a solid foundation in order to grow. As we do our poses this week, we will focus on thinking about the mindfulness of action vs. striving too hard. (I have a plant stake in my garden that says, “Grow, Damnit!” We’ll try to avoid that approach. lol)
